Using an ancient technique, Paper Quilling is transformed into stunning, durable, wearable pieces of jewelry. This unique craft can be intimidating at first glance, but author Ann Martin shows you how to create gorgeous, intricate designs that resemble copper, silver and gold without the high price tag.
Quilling paper strips can be rolled, glued and manipulated into endless shapes to create a wide variety of eye-catching designs. While traditional quilling can be time-consuming, Ann offers simple and quick projects for beginners and experienced quillers alike, including the Celestial Flower Pendant and the Petal Power Lariat Necklace. Each project is a little different, but they all revolve around the same basic shape: coils and rings.
Ann’s use of pre-cut paper strips with metallic edges makes it easy to get started quickly. Then, with the help of basic tools (most of which you probably already have) and jewelry-making supplies like pliers, pins and metal jump rings, you can be on your way to crafting these lovely designs.
Some tips to help you get started: 1. Choose a non-stick surface to work on, such as a votive candleholder or shot glass lined with a damp paper towel. 2. Invest in a good quality, clear-drying glue. A favorite with experienced quillers is Elmer’s School Glue or Scotch Clear Glue. 3. Consider purchasing a clay modeling tool to make ring coils and to position and apply the glue more easily. 4. Once your pieces are finished, if desired, brush on a light coating of fixative spray. Paper Quilling Jewelry
