Matter Residences – Will My Smart Home Devices Work With Matter?

Matter residences is situated right in the middle of the Kallang neighbourhood, with schools like Canossa Catholic Primary School and Macpherson Primary School within walking distance. Neighborhood grocery stores like NTUC Fairprice and Sims Vista Market & Food Centre are also nearby. There are several MRT stations that you can easily access from Matter residences, such as Ang Mo Kio, Kallang MRT and Macpherson MRT.

The big question is: Will my current devices work with Matter? Matter builds on existing tech standards, including Wi-Fi and Thread. The goal is to reduce device-to-device fragmentation by making it easier for smart home devices to talk to one another, regardless of their tech specs. Matter devices can communicate with each other locally over your home’s Wi-Fi or, if necessary, over the Internet via Ethernet.

Smart home hubs that have been Matter certified — like the Apple HomePod Mini, Google Home Hub, Amazon Echo Show and Nest Hub Max — will act as controllers, managing communications between your other devices. Bridges and hubs from companies like Philips Hue, Aqara and Lockly could also become controllers, though that’ll depend on the manufacturer.

Many of these manufacturers already began announcing support for Matter well before this year’s CES. Some, like Nanoleaf and Eve, are adding Matter support through over-the-air firmware updates to their existing products. Others, such as Belkin and Comcast, have incorporated Matter into their new smart home routers. matter residences
